WRAPPING UP THE OLYMPICS
The Summer Olympics felt like just the right ingredient to what the world was craving. At a time when news and media make one feel like there is more darkness than light, it was healthy to escape for a moment to celebrate our favorite athletic and non-athletic heroes. The Paris Summer Olympics allowed the world to join together in awe of human passion and capability. I noticed how the opposing teams were for the most part outwardly supportive of their rivals. Without a worthy opponent, you’re nothing. It felt positively uplifting! And equally, Paris was able to handle the games with welcoming elegance and grace.
My friend Pamela Yung, a well-traveled Chef and Baker, was making pizza at the Coca-Cola Food Fest during the Olympics. She made a Pizza Jambon Avec Fromage et Beurre Salé. When I asked her how the vibe of the city was, she said everything seemed clean, safe, organized, and above all friendly. Leading up to the games, many Parisians, and not just those used to taking their vacations in that month, left the city. Consequently Paris felt empty, both for locals and for tourists. I think many Parisians were instead spending time at the Santa Monica boardwalk.
