I first met Ali (Alexandra) last April when I moderated her book launch at Now Serving in Los Angeles. She was mid–book tour, I had just landed back from a trip, and we had a quick snack pre-event at Lasita just an hour before the event. I’ll admit, I felt a little intimidated — a Yale graduate, the author of several cookbooks, and someone with over a million Instagram followers. But within seconds of meeting Ali, my nerves had given way to excitement; she was friendly, down-to-earth, and disarmingly funny with her dry sense of humor.
